MAR MENOR - THE ORIGINAL COURSE
The first of the Nicklaus Golf trail courses the original 9 holes Par 36 designed by Dave Thomas opened in 2005 the course was then extended to 18 holes Par 72 in September 2009 to a Jack Nicklaus design.
Not a long course for its Par 72 but with the maturity of the native grasses, flowering shrubs, palm trees and the addition of the new lake with it sand leading to the waters edge which comes into play on 3 holes accuracy and your full attention will be required.
Playing the 2nd hole Par 3 the elevated green will quickly give you a taste of the additional protection this course has, anything other than a shot finding the centre of the green can find you playing further shots from the run off edges or bunker at the front left of the green.
There will be no rest then as you move to the 3rd a long Par 4 slight dogleg right, stroke index 1. A straight long tee shot is required which then sets up the option of another long shot over the lake to the right of the fairway or a lay up and take on the pin with a 3rd hoping then to walk away with a single putt to make Par.
The 18th Par 4 brings you home to the backdrop setting of the Intercontinental Hotel and the club bar. A fairly wide fairway but guarded down the right and in front of the green with bunkers. The shot to the green needs to be long enough to clear these hazards but don’t be to conservative with club selection as remember theres out of bounds to the rear of the green.
